pride · Type 7
"clever superiority"
Pride in being quicker and lighter — seeing the next move while others are stuck on the current one, having the easy relationship to what others find heavy. The cleverness becomes a quiet position above them.
For Type 7, pride lives as the felt sense of being quicker, lighter, more able to find the angle others get stuck on. It's not the moral pride of Type 1, the image pride of Type 3, or the comprehension pride of Type 5. It's the pride of synthesis-into-possibility: of seeing the next move when others are still stuck on the current one, of having the lighter relationship to material others find heavy, of being able to find what works almost anywhere.
How it shows up
- "They don't really see what's possible here."
- Felt impatience with people who can't keep up with the speed of the conversation
- Quiet satisfaction in finding the angle others missed
- Difficulty with situations that require depth without cleverness
- Body: a felt elevation in the chest; eyes alive; the lift that comes from being the quick one in the room
Type 7 pride is intellectual-quickness pride. Underneath: the suspicion that without the speed, there might be nothing distinguishing the 7 — that the cleverness is doing identity work as well as analytical work. The pride is invested in being faster than the material that would otherwise be heavy.
Cleverness as Position
Holding the quick-synthesis-into-possibility as a stable identity. *It feels like* discrimination — being able to tell what's actually interesting from what's just dutiful, what's playful from what's sluggish, what has next-moves from what's exhausted. *It functions as* a defended elevation that prevents being met by what would actually be heavy. The cleverness becomes the way the 7 stays above material that would otherwise weigh — and the lightness itself becomes the position.
Cleverness is not the same as having met the thing. The bright frame may be true and may also be the way you didn't have to feel what was underneath.
When the felt elevation arises — the quickness, the satisfaction at having found the next move, the lightness that comes from seeing past what's stuck others — locate where it lives in the body. Notice the exact bodily pleasure of being the quick one. The lift in the chest. Stay with that sensation. Notice what happens when you don't deploy the cleverness for a moment longer. The discovery is whether the heaviness was real or whether the cleverness was protecting against it.
What's on the other side
- Quickness that includes humility about what it bypasses
- Synthesis that doesn't have to lift past the difficulty
- Equality with people who are slower in different ways
- Cleverness held without needing to elevate the clever one
