fear
The signal points at danger. The threat-rehearsal loop is the distortion.
Signal vs threat-rehearsal
Fear may carry useful signal — that something is genuinely dangerous, that caution is warranted, that attention is needed. The distortion is threat-rehearsal: imagining the danger again and again, scanning for it, tightening preemptively against possibilities that may never arrive. The signal points at the actual threat; the distortion runs the threat as a loop in the absence of one.

Stop the rehearsal, locate the sensation
When fear becomes a loop — checking, scanning, projecting — the work is to stop the loop and locate the actual sensation. Where is the fear in the body right now, not in the imagined future? What does it feel like as a present-moment thing? The rehearsal can stop; the sensation can be allowed. The future can stay unresolved; the body can soften now.
